These work if you have arch or heel pain that comes from standing long hours or from wearing footwear that does not correctly support and cushion the arch and heel.

I'm fiftysomething and am on my feet for 6-8 hours a day. Even though I was wearing good-quality work boots with decent arch support, my feet were painful. I had been trying other over-the-counter orthotics and foam pads designed for arch and heel pain, but my discomfort was getting worse regardless of what I tried.

A friend had been diagnosed with plantar fasciitis (inflammation of the ligament on the bottom of the foot that connects the heel bone to the toes). She told me this product helped her a lot while she was healing. She slipped one out of her shoe to show me. The insert is thin and light, so it doesn't look like much, but I thought it was worth a try, given her glowing recommendation. She was right.

The tri-comfort inserts are fairly thin and don't extend all the way to the toes, so they don't take up a lot of room in your shoes. The springy plastic support under the arch doesn't add a lot of bulk, but it effectively supports the ligaments. These inserts are not suitable for sandals or open-back dress shoes, because the heel cup shows a little around the edges of your heels. The front edge of the insert can rub the ball of your bare foot a bit as you walk, but socks (even thin ones) solve that problem for me. I have washed the inserts in the washing machine with good results. Use your regular cycle, warm or cold water, not hot, air dry.

(On a related note, I really dislike the gel insoles that Dr. Scholl's and others sell for heel pain. They are "squirmy" feeling underfoot, smell odd, take up too much space in my shoes, and don't have a firm heel cup.)

If you try the tri-comfort inserts and find they work for you, remember to replace the inserts when your foot pain returns. If replacing the insert does not work like it should, it's time to replace your foot wear too. The pain is telling you the cushioning and support your feet need is gone, even if your shoes or inserts still look fine.

6/11 update: I always wear supportive shoes with the tri-comfort insoles whenever I have to stand a lot (ie: on the job), but I also do foot strengthening and stretching exercises for a few minutes 2-3 times a week. I also walk barefoot or in stocking feet for short periods around the house. If any exercise or the barefoot walking starts to hurt in a "not good" kind of way, I lighten up or stop, but I think it has helped to "challenge" my feet in sensible ways.
