Profoot Plantar Fasciitis Orthotics , Men's, 1 Pair Review

After reading about Plantar Fasciitis on the internet, I decided I needed to get some type of orthotic device for my shoes. I bought this product (ProFoot Plantar Fasciitis Men's Orthotic Insert), the Dr. Scholl's PRO for Arch Pain Relief inserts, and the Powerstep Pinnacle Insole. Out of the three, the ProFoot helped the least.

To provide really good arch support, the arch part of the orthotic needs to be quite firm. The arch area on the ProFoot is just some type of foam rubber and in my opinion doesn't provide much support at all. It's just too soft and not thick enough. If you have a pair of shoes that only need a slight amount more of arch support, then perhaps these would work for you, but if you are suffering from plantar fasciitis (like I am), I think more suitable products are out there (that cost more money, of course).

The Dr. Scholl's that I mentioned before are OK, but not perfect. I have a pair of tennis shoes that will not accommodate a full length orthotic, so I like it because it doesn't go all the way to the toe. I needed a little more arch support in those tennis shoes, and the Dr. Scholl's worked better for me than this ProFoot model.

Lastly, the Powerstep Pinnacle Insole was the most expensive of the 3 (around $23) but it provided the most arch support (perhaps even a bit too much if the shoes already have decent arch support built in). On the Powerstep arch supports, the arch area is reinforced with hard plastic which keeps it shaped correctly.

I had plantar fasciitis for several months, and using the Powerstep supports in a pair of New Balance tennis shoes (they don't have a whole lot of arch support built in), the pain has nearly gone away in about 3 weeks. Keep in mind that besides wearing arch supports, I also modified the way I do step aerobics at the gym. I was on my toes way too much, and now I understand why the instructors say to let your heel go all the way to the ground every time, instead of being on your toes all the time. Also I controlled the force of my foot coming down.
